Recent Changes to the Ownership Structure of Debitum

Last updated April 12, 2024

Debitum Network is a Latvian peer-to-peer lending and investment company founded in April of 2019. The company markets Asset Backed Securities (ABS's) from several loan originators throughout the region, including Evergreen Capital of Estonia, Flexidea of Latvia, Flexidea Polska (based in Poland), Triple Dragon of the UK, and Sandbox Funding of Latvia. As a regulated financial entity, Debitum report to the Bank of Latvia, which in turn reports to European Union regulators.

According to their website, Debitum has over 10,000 registered users who have invested a combined €72 million into 62 ABSs and nearly 8000 loans. The platform reports a 0% default rate and an XIRR of 11.25%, and to date it has repaid 87% of the total invested principle. The average duration of these ABS's is one year, so this isn't the best platform for investors seeking high liquidity. On the other hand, the zero default rate makes this an excellent platform from low-risk investors. Debitum doesn't charge any fees, and the €10 minimum deposit makes this one of the best platforms for investors with smaller portfolios.

Debitum's Ownership Restructuring

In early August 2023, Debitum Network sent out an email to its users announcing changes to the "controlling ownership structure of SIA DN Operator," which is "the legal name of the P2P platform Debitum." The email included a link to the site's blog page, where readers could find a detailed announcement, which had been posted just a few days prior.

To summarize, the company's CEO Henrijs Jansons would be taking over ownership of the company, along with banking expert Ingus Salmiņš and financial advisor Ēriks Reņģītis. The blog clarified that these changes were "being coordinated by Bank of Latvia," the financial body directly responsible for regulating Debitum. In addition, the blog announced that long-time board member and former CEO Mārtiņš Liberts would be stepping down, and was "no longer involved or responsible" for any decisions being made.

Henrijs Jansons took over as CEO of Debitum in early 2022. According to the Debitum website, Henrijs Jansons is still "the existing CEO" of the company. What This Means for You

Investors are understandably resistant to change, which makes perfect sense given the well-established link between stability and security. On the other hand, Henrijs Jansons has been successfully leading the Debitum since 2022. He hasn't announced any changes to the company structure or operations, and given Debitum's overall performance since 2019, there's every reason for optimism. P2PIncome recommends Debitum, particularly to those looking to start out with only a few euro.
